The shortage of affordable housing in New Jersey continues to grow. Now that the courts have established the number of additional affordable units that most municipalities must provide, what’s next? With tax-credit financing and other government subsidies shrinking, what alternatives should be considered? Upzoning for added density, including duplexes and accessory dwelling units? Tiny homes? Modular or manufactured homes? What laws or regulations stand in the way of creative solutions, and how might non-traditional homes fit into a smart-growth paradigm?
